Collection African Women Photographers

Collection African Women Photographers

Co-published by Casa Africa and La Fábrica editorial

Directed by Masasam and promoted by Casa Africa, this collection is aimed at making the most outstanding African women photographers better known, particularly those who have won the Casa Africa Award at the Bamako African Photography Biennial. Our aim is to draw attention to the broad-ranging diversity of African photography and the solid creativity of its photographers.
This collection has two main objectives: firstly, to forestage African photography on the global scenario, in other words, to make it part of the whole and not merely consider it as part of the rest; and, secondly, to act out the will to endow African women photographers more visibility. This collection aims to break down the barriers of this double invisibility by looking at the narrative constructs of these women and thus multiplying the existing ways of seeing in an attempt to broaden and enhance our own perspectives.
The collection is composed on the one hand of odd numbers related with Casa Africa Award at the Bamako African Photography Biennial and on the other hand of pair numbers that will be dedicated to acclaimed photographers selected by Masasam and the publisher of the collection.
